Austrian plastic packaging manufacturer Alpla (Hard; www.alpla.com) has announced the acquisition of German recycler Texplast (Wolfen; www.texplast.de) and with it all shares in its joint venture PET Recycling Team Wolfen from partner and Texplast parent Fromm (Cham, Switzerland; www.fromm-pack.com). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Alpla and the Swiss company set up the partnership in 2019 (see Plasteurope.com of 11.04.2019).
The Austrian firm said the deal raises its processing capacity for PET bottles to 75,000 t/y in Germany thanks to last year’s takeover of local reclaim company BTB Recycling (Bad Salzuflen – see Plasteurope.com of 07.10.2021).
“Our goal is the cycle from bottle to bottle,” Alpla CEO Philipp Lehner said. “We are stepping up our activities worldwide to meet growing demand for post-consumer recyclate.”
Late last year, the company said it laid the foundation stone for a Mexican plant as part of a joint venture with local bottler Coca-Cola Femsa, and the facility is expected to have a capacity to make more than 50,000 t/y of PET bottles from post-consumer waste (see Plasteurope.com of 31.01.2022).
