Dutch compound manufacturer The Compound Company (Enschede; www.thecompoundcompany.com) announced it has acquired the production site, product portfolio, and customer base for Exxelor polymer resins from Esso Deutschland, a Cologne, Germany-based unit of ExxonMobil Chemical (Houston, Texas, USA; www.exxonmobilchemical.com). Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Exxelor products are chemically modified polyolefin-based polymers used to enhance the performance of engineering plastics and other polymers. As impact modifiers, they optimise the toughness of compounds. As compatibilisers and adhesion promoters, they increase the bond strength of non-polar polymers with polyolefins, fillers and reinforcements as well as with metals, thermosets, and most polar substrates, including glass.
The acquisition complements The Compound Company’s Yparex extrudable adhesives and EcoForte compounds, and increases its’s global manufacturing capacity to approximately 70,000 t/y. The production site and brand are expected to remain as is, and the integration of the Exxelor business will occur without any major changes for customers, the company said.
