The rising uncertainty caused by the Ukraine war and the sanctions imposed on Russia by the West are already affecting the European plastics industry: citing exploding energy costs, Trinseo (European headquarters: Horgen, Switzerland; www.trinseo.com) is suspending negotiations for polystyrene, ABS, SAN, and polycarbonate until next week, 7-13 March 2022.
A company spokesperson told Plasteurope.com that energy prices have doubled in the past week. Trinseo’s price hike announcement for March (see Plasteurope.com of 02.03.2022) had taken the rising energy cost into account, but not to this extent. Before confirming concrete prices, the company said it would first observe whether the high price level solidifies, requiring corresponding adjustments be made.
