BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com) has announced an increase in production capacity at its plant in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. By Q3 2023, it plans to add 5,000 t/y of polyamide and PBT compounds to its existing capacity. The group did not specify the amount to be invested in the expansion.
The facility currently has a compounding capacity of around 45,000 t/y for PA and PBT, with PA taking a slightly larger share.
Andy Postlethwaite, senior VP of BASF’s performance materials business in Asia-Pacific, expects demand for engineering plastics in Southeast Asia to grow 5% per year up until 2030, especially in automotive, household electronics, and E&E applications.
