Partnership with New Loop for Scandinavian deposit system / Reusable PP cups, trays, and bowls
New Loop's re-use system is expected to be expanded to the whole of Denmark and Scandinavia (Logo: Jokey) |
German plastic packaging producer Jokey (Wipperfürth; www.jokey.com) has partnered with Danish circular packaging system provider New Loop (Copenhagen; www.thenewloop.dk) to create a digitalised deposit system in Scandinavia.
New Loop now uses recyclable returnable packaging from Jokey for takeaway and convenience packaging and provides them to participating takeaway providers, namely Original Coffee, Prolog, Wolt, and Letz Sushi. As a cooperation partner, Jokey supplies insulating coffee cups, sushi trays, and salad bowls made of polypropylene.
With food delivery service provider Wolt, for instance, the Danish start-up has established a return system with washable PP coffee cups, being delivered to various parts of Copenhagen.

How it works: New Loop provides the digital solution and coordinates with participating takeaway providers. Partner companies handle the packaging collection from specific points, the washing process, and the redelivery to the takeaway providers. Consumers scan the packaging via an app before returning it and receive the deposit refunded to their account.
The packaging can be washed and used multiple times. At the end of its life cycle, Jokey and other partners take the packaging back; it is then regranulated and reused by Jokey for the production of new packaging. Already in Copenhagen, the re-use system is expected to be expanded to the whole of Denmark and Scandinavia.
