Expansion of PET film capacity in Germany

At its German facility in Staufen, film producer Liveo Research (Basel, Switzerland; www.liveoresearch.com) – formerly Bilcare Research (see Plasteurope.com of 27.11.2019) – is intending to expand its PET film capacity with a new extruder. When contacted by Plasteurope.com, the company did not disclose the investment sum or film capacities involved. The plant is scheduled to come onstream in the second half of 2022.
PET-G and PVC films are produced at the Staufen site. The company says that the current investment is in reaction to the strong demand for sustainable films and hence to the shift from PVC to polyester films. The “Pharma Packaging Innovations (PPI)” segment is additionally to be supplied with PET films for the pharmaceutical industry.
Liveo Research produces films for the pharmaceutical and consumer goods industries. In addition to Staufen, the Swiss company has branches in Bötzingen, Germany – where coating capacities recently underwent a major expansion – in Delaware, USA, and in Singapore and China. With 1,000 employees, Liveo most recently reported annual sales in excess of EUR 300 mn.
