Rehau (Rehau / Germany; www.rehau.de) plans to officially start the production of plastic pipes at its new plant in Lithuania sometime in January 2021. As a first step, pipes for floor heating systems will be manufactured at the Klaipeda site, explained Frank Lehr, executive director of operations and supply chain management of Rehau’s building solutions division. A later expansion will see the addition of plastic pipes for domestic installations. The workforce will consist of “up to 200” employees.
Wholesalers, telecommunication companies and municipalities all over Europe are the intended buyers for the products from Klaipeda. Delivery to customers will primarily be by HGVs.
According to Roger Schönborn, head of the building solutions division, the large pool of qualified workers, well-developed infrastructure and “good cost-quality ratio” were points in favour of the chosen location in the free economic zone of Klaipeda.
