German automotive supplier Dr. Schneider (Kronach; www.dr-schneider.com) said it is investing USD 22.5m (EUR 20m) in a new US plant in Baldwyn, Mississippi. Governor Tate Reeves noted the move would create 400 jobs in the medium term. The company did not respond to a Plasteurope.com query regarding plans for its product portfolio or when the facility is expected to come onstream, though it said it aims to start searching for employees in the coming year.
With this investment, CEO Thomas Stadelmann is implementing the decision made in early 2021 to expand production in China and the US to reduce dependency on the European market. The German supplier already has a Chinese plant in Liaoyang, Liaoning, and an American shop in Russell Springs, Kentucky, which lies some 500 km northeast of the site planned for the Mississippi facility.
