Vinnolit launches lower-carbon “GreenVin” PVC / Second such product in 2021

Westlake (Houston, Texas / USA; www.westlake.com) said its German unit, Vinnolit (Ismaning; www.vinnolit.de), has launched “GreenVin” PVC – a lower-carbon alternative PVC that follows the introduction of GreenVin caustic soda earlier this year.
The GreenVin product line is expected to extend into the company’s vinyl chloride and hydrogen products in the future, Westlake said. The brand is based on high-quality renewable energy certificates associated with the production of the lower-carbon PVC and caustic soda.
Depending on the PVC type, the carbon-dioxide savings with GreenVin PVC are about 25% compared to conventionally produced Vinnolit PVC, the company said. The respective carbon footprint for the entire product portfolio was calculated by Sustainable (Munich / Germany; www.sustainable.com), on the basis of the ISO 14067 standard. Review and certification were carried out by TÜV Rheinland (Cologne / Germany; www.tuv.com).
