US carbon fibre producer Zoltek (Bridgeton, Missouri; www.zoltek.com) said it is again increasing capacity at its plant in Guadalajara / Mexico. After the last expansion (see Plasteurope.com of 17.04.2018) a further 3,000 t/y of “PX35” 50K fibre is to be added. No financial details or a start date for the increase were disclosed.
This will raise total available output at the site to 13,000 t/y and boosts global capacity to 28,500 t/y for the Toray subsidiary. The large-tow fibres are primarily intended for applications in automotive engineering and wind energy.
