The US car technology unit of Japanese carbon fibre manufacturer Teijin (Tokyo; www.teijin.com) is now home to the parent company’s five divisions for supplying composite materials to the vehicle and shipbuilding industries.

With the rebranding, Teijin Automotive Technologies (Auburn Hills, Michigan / USA; www.teijinautomotive.com) plans to act as a vertically integrated supplier of composite materials and components for customers in North America, Europe and Asia. In addition to the automotive composite materials division of the Teijin Group in Japan, the new unit includes 28 branches with 5,400 employees in seven countries; the CEO and MD is Steve Rooney.

Over the past few years, the Japanese company has bought Continental Structural Plastics (CSP, Auburn Hills, Michigan / USA; www.cspplastics.com), CSP Victall (Shanghai / China; www.csp-victall.com), Inapal Plasticos (Leca do Balio / Portugal) and Benet Automotive (Mlada Boleslav / Czech Republic). Additionally, the Teijin Automotive Center Europe (TACE) for European carmakers opened in Wuppertal / Germany at the beginning of 2020 (see Plasteurope.com of 06.02.2020).
