German biodegradable and bio-based plastics producer Bio-Fed (Cologne; www.bio-fed.com) has expanded its “M-Vera” portfolio of biocompounds with its GP1045 grade for injection moulding applications that require medium stiffness (tensile modulus of 2,000 MPa).
The supplier, a unit of German compounder Akro-Plastic (Niederzissen; www.akro-plastic.com), said the compound consists of almost 100% high-quality renewable raw materials, is home-compostable and suited to the production of rigid objects such as household articles, toys, packaging and coffee capsules.
The material is certified by TÜV Austria Belgium (Kraainem / Belgium; www.tuv-at.be), the company said, noting that a food safety approval for the EU has also been granted. The compound can be processed on conventional plastics machineries and provides comparably comprehensive properties, Bio-Fed added.
