Consumer goods giant Colgate-Palmolive has brought its new “Elixir” toothpaste to the European market in 80 ml PET containers. The use of the transparent packaging, which stands on its cap, is made possible by a slippery coating on the inside. This coating technology, developed by LiquiGlide (Cambridge, Massachusetts / USA; www.liquiglide.com), is intended to ensure that viscous toothpaste can be squeezed out of the dimensionally stable containers more easily. The closure for the toothpaste, which is available in three varieties, is a transparent screw cap in thick-walled PET.
In addition to its cooperation with Colgate-Palmolive, LiquiGlide had also announced in April 2021 that it would be working with Switzerland’s largest retailer Migros’ subsidiary Mibelle. The technology patented by LiquiGlide co-founders Dave Smith and Kripa Varanasi is now reducing product loss in toothpaste production tanks at Mibelle.
