In mid-June, Belgium-based semi-finished goods manufacturer Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials (MCAM, Tielt; www.mcam.com) introduced detectable plastics to the European market. Rods, sheets and the like made of these materials are to be available in North America from mid-August.
The “VMX” types, which can be identified visually, with X-rays, and with metal detectors, are based on POM, polyamide 6, PEEK and UHMWPE. They replace the firm’s previous “MD” family for plastic components in food processing and packaging systems.
MCAM – formerly Quadrant – is the first company to offer a complete portfolio of these engineering plastics that also meet EU and FDA regulations for contact with food, according to MCAM Manager Paul Canacas.
