Schütz (Selters / Germany; www.schuetz.net) has commissioned a new plant in Canada for the production of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and plastic tight head containers. The 1,860m² production facility in Belleville, Ontario – Schütz’s first in the country – has been equipped with two multilayer extrusion blow moulding lines and an IBC assembly line for a start, according to the company.

Important criteria in choosing the location were the possibility of expanding production if needed and an own rail siding so the company can supply the plant with feedstock materials through large-capacity silo wagons, also know as hopper cars. Schütz also emphasised the convenient location between the metropolises of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, and the closeness to Lake Ontario.

Belleville is part of the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor, a densely populated and heavily industrialised region spanning the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Companies from the chemical, food, cosmetics, automotive and iron and steel processing sectors are the most prominent in the region.
