Italian engineering group Maire Tecnimont (Milan; www.mairetecnimont.com) said its subsidiaries will build a 200,000 t/y polypropylene plant and related facilities for Indian Oil (IOCL, New Delhi; www.iocl.com) in Barauni, in the state of Bihar – a project originally announced more than two years ago (see Plasteurope.com of 07.01.2019). The contract is valued at USD 170m (EUR 143m), and the project is scheduled for 30 months, the Italian firm said.
The new PP plant will be part of a refinery capacity expansion project at the site, which entails the installation of large grassroots units as well as revamps and upgrades to increase the capacity of current units, according to Maire Technimont.
Indian Oil announced a number of plans to build PP plants in 2019. Along with the Barauni facility, it said it would construct a new line in Vadadora, in the western state of Gujarat, with a capacity of 420,000 t/y (see Plasteurope.com of 07.01.2019), and its domestic Chennai Petroleum subsidiary (CPCL, Chennai, Tamil Nadu; www.cpcl.co.in) said it would build a 475,000 t/y PP plant in Nagapattinam / Tamil Nadu.
All three plants are to produce under Novolen technology licences issued by US plant constructor McDermott (Houston, Texas; www.mcdermott.com).
