Faerch (Holstebro / Denmark; www.faerch.com) is planning to acquire PET and polypropylene food tray manufacturer MCP Performance Plastic (Kibbutz Hamaapil / Israel; www.mcp.co.il) for an undisclosed sum. In addition to the MCP headquarters in Israel, the deal also includes a production unit in Portage in the US state of Indiana, thus providing entry into the North American market. “MCP gives Faerch a steppingstone into the important US market, with an estimated volume of USD 55 bn (EUR 47 bn),” says Faerch CEO Lars Gade Hansen. The Danes are especially intending to score points on the other side of the Atlantic with sustainable packaging containing recyclate. Both Faerch and MCP have rPET trays in their product ranges.
The transaction is to be completed over the next three months. For the Holstebro-based company, this marks the first acquisition under the auspices of new owner A.P. Moller Holding (see Plasteurope.com of 16.12.2020). The acquisition is boosting the Faerch workforce by 200. The Danish company currently has 2,200 employees across Europe in its 16 plants in the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the UK.
