Hamilton Medical (Bonaduz / Switzerland; www.hamilton-medical.com) has expanded its cleanroom without interrupting production. The company added 320 m² to its previous cleanroom area of 560 m², which it built in 2018 to produce 2.5 bn pipette tips per year, according to German technology supplier Schilling Engineering (Wutöschingen; www.schillingengineering.de).
A modular system allowed the expansion time to be reduced to only six weeks. During this period, production only stopped for four hours to adjust and test the pressurisation and ventilation of the attached room modules.
The expansion has enabled Hamilton to commission a further three injection moulding machines for the contamination-free production of pipette tips. Production capacity had to be increased as the coronavirus pandemic caused a sudden rise in demand for laboratory diagnostic articles.
