Plastics producer Lotte Chemical (Seoul / South Korea; www.lottechem.com) has developed a range of chemically recycled methyl methacrylate acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (MABS) products, which the company claims are the world’s first. To produce these, Lotte collects and pulverises PMMA waste, which is applied to acrylics and by-products from the production process. The resulting materials then go through thermal decomposition to create MMA raw materials.
France’s BIC (Clichy; www.bic.fr), a major manufacturer of plastic products such as lighters, disposable razors and stationery, has already incorporated Lotte’s transparent ABS in the production of three razor brands, “Click 3 Soleil”, “Click 3 Soleil Sensitive” and “Click 4 Soleil”. The French manufacturer aims to use 20% non-virgin petroleum plastics for its products by 2025, and 50% by 2030. In 2020, BIC acquired its French competitor Djeep (Paris; www.djeep.com) for EUR 40m (see Plasteurope.com of 27.07.2020).
