Four certification schemes have joined PolyCert Europe (Brussels / Belgium; www.polycerteurope.eu), a quality compliance programme for plastics processors. The schemes are QA-CER (Gent / Belgium; www.qa-cer.be), AENOR (Madrid / Spain; www.en.aenor.com), Plastica Seconda Vita (Milan / Italy; www.ippr.it/psv) and Wertstoff PET (Bad Homburg / Germany; www.wertstoff-pet.de). The objective is to harmonise methodologies for verifying the recycled content in plastics products.
PolyCert said the schemes believe that joining forces and working on the same basis will increase transparency in companies’ claims about the secondary material they use, and thus support the transition to a circular economy.
Launched in October 2020, PolyCert aims to create a harmonised independent audit methodology across EU member states, contributing to a level playing field for countries’ differing schemes, and ensuring mutual recognition (see Plasteurope.com of 05.10.2020).
Members of PolyCert include Brussels-based organisations, European Plastics Converters Association (EuPC), European Carpet and Rug Association (ECRA) and European Single ply Waterproofing Association. Others are independent laboratory Centexbel-VKC, Valipac, environmental NGO Waste Free Oceans (WFO), essenscia, Unionplast, Polyvia and NRK. In February 2021, PolyCert had elected new members for its steering board (see Plasteurope.com of 12.02.2021).
