Domo Chemicals (Leuna / Germany; www.domochemicals.com) has developed a new polyamide 6.6-based black polymer product line suitable for emerging laser-welding applications. “Technyl Star AF 219 V30 black LT” can be used to join thermoplastic parts together at high welding speeds using laser-welding technology rather than a friction-welding approach. The latter process can create dust and require post-production cleaning. Laser welding is a low-dust, flexible and precise technology that creates a clean and invisible weld.
The new “Technyl” material family – which is to go global on completion of Domo’s non-compete clause with BASF in 2022 (see Plasteurope.com of 25.01.2021) – is suitable for laser-welding applications across many industries, including sensitive electric and electronics, complex, small-shaped parts for automotive and electric-vehicle market, and consumer goods. A 30% glass fibre-reinforced PA 6 for laser-welding applications is in development.
