Saudi petrochemicals and plastics giant Sabic (Riyadh; www.sabic.com) launched a recycled material comprising a minimum 10% recycled ocean-bound PET blended with polycarbonate. The “Xenoy” PC/PET compound is part of Sabic’s “Trucircle” portfolio of certified circular polymers (see Plasteurope.com of 09.03.2021).
The compound contains PET recovered from ocean-feeding waterways and inland areas within a 50 km radius of the ocean. Sabic’s Xenoy product offers potential reductions of up to 7% in carbon emissions and up to 11% in energy consumption compared to its virgin grade, while delivering good impact strength, processability and chemical resistance.
