Poligal (Narón / Spain; www.poligal.com), a manufacturer of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cast PP films, has been sold by its parent company, family-owned Grup Peralada (Barcelona / Spain; www.grupperalada.com) to Peru-based film manufacturer Oben Group (Lima; www.obengroup.com). Operations under Poligal’s group subsidiaries include BOPP and CPP production plants in Portugal and Poland, as well as sales offices in Germany.
The acquisition of Poligal expands Oben Group’s presence outside of the Americas. The Peruvian company is said to be a leading manufacturer of packaging films in Latin America, producing BOPP, CPP, BOPET, BOPA and BOPE films as well as coatings. Oben has production plants in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador and Peru with capacity of over 550,000 t.
In 2019, Poligal had to shut down the plant at its headquarters in Narón due to tough market conditions (see Plasteurope.com of 26.02.2019). Peralada said the sale of Poligal is part of a strategic realignment. The parent company has business interests in winemaking, gastronomy, casinos, resorts, hotels, real estate and automotive.
