On 30 December 2020, Messe Düsseldorf (www.messe-duesseldorf.de), together with the Colombian trade fair company, Corferias, signed a contract with Colombian plastics association Acoplásticos (Bogota / Colombia; www.acoplasticos.org) for future cooperation on plastics exhibition “Colombiaplast” (www.colombiaplast.org). Messe Düsseldorf, through its subsidiary Messe Düsseldorf North America (Chicago, USA), will hold a one-third stake in Colombiaplast, as will Corferias – both trade fair companies will be involved in the event’s organisation. The leftover one-third remains in the possession of Acoplásticos. Messe Düsseldorf did not want to comment on the money involved in the investment.
The event in Bogota, which is organised every three years, is considered one of the most important international trade fairs for the plastics, rubber, petrochemical and packaging industries in Latin America, and sees 172 exhibitors in each event. Together with the much larger “FIB: International Industrial Trade Fair of Bogota” – which sees around 700 exhibitors and takes place at the same time – it attracted around 43,000 visitors in 2018. The next edition of Colombiaplast is scheduled for 21 to 25 June 2021, at the Corferias exhibition centre in Bogota / Colombia.
With this development, Messe Düsseldorf is furthering its “Global Gate” portfolio of worldwide plastics and rubber trade fairs. Messe Düsseldorf is the organiser of the world’s leading trade fair “K”, which takes place every three years in Düsseldorf / Germany; the most recent one being in 2019 (see Plasteurope.com of 24.10.2019). “Colombia is one of the fastest growing markets for plastics technology in Latin America. It is important for us to have a presence in this market, and with this acquisition we are making our first commitment to the plastics and rubber sector in South America,” says Erhard Wienkamp, MD, Messe Düsseldorf.
