The impact of the coronacrisis on the aviation industry has hit composites processor FACC (Ried / Austria; www.facc.com). The company recently announced an “adjustment of employment relationships” due to loss of business (see Plasteurope.com of 21.08.2020), and now FACC has unveiled plans to cut 650 jobs. Management is said to have informed the workforce on 18 September about the details of a social compensation plan negotiated with employee representatives.
The cuts are expected to hit almost one in five of the 3,350 employees even though FACC has been placing staff on short-time work since the end of March 2020. “The current situation is very challenging for the entire industry,” said FACC director Robert Machtlinger. “The recovery will be slow and will probably take four to five years. We expect the aviation industry to reach pre-corona levels from 2024 onwards.”
