RecyClass (Brussels / Belgium; www.recyclass.eu), a cross-industry initiative developed by Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE, Brussels; www.plasticsrecyclers.eu), has welcomed its first group of certification bodies following the launch of two plastic packaging recyclability classifications earlier this year (see Plasteurope.com of 16.06.2020). Twenty auditors at Recoup (Peterborough / UK; www.recoup.org), Suez.Circpack (Paris / France; www.suez.com), Plastship (Waldems / Germany; www.plastship.com), Circular Analytics (Vienna / Austria; www.circularanalytics.com), Aimplas (Valencia / Spain; www.aimplas.net), Veolia PET Germany (Hamburg; www.veolia.de) and Swiss start-up Redilo (www.redilo.ch) have been accredited to issue the RecyClass certifications.
Chairman Paolo Glerean said, “With these collaborations, we aim to promote the scientifically based RecyClass method as an objective way to assess plastic packaging recyclability in the marketplace. The certification bodies and their auditors will help us in setting up such a transparent and trustworthy framework.”
In July 2020, two more documents were released – “RecyClass Certification Bodies and Auditors Requirements” and “RecyClass Certification Quality Management Systems and Procedures”. These add to the initiative’s methodology published in June 2020 and facilitate operation of the certifications, RecyClass said.
