For the equivalent of EUR 36m, polyester resin producer Lerg (Pustków / Poland; www.lerg.pl) is taking over the epoxy resin division Ciech Żywice from Polish chemical group Ciech (Warsaw / Poland; www.ciech.com). Both companies recently signed a provisional agreement on the deal.
Ciech Żywice, based in Nowa Sarzyna / Poland, was spun off from pesticide manufacturer Ciech Sarzyna at the start of 2020. Unsaturated polyester resins account for half of the company’s total sales of over EUR 65m. The 240 employees generate the other half of sales with epoxy resins (40%) and saturated polyester resins (10%).
This is not the first purchase this year for Lerg, which is about twice as large with proceeds of around EUR 115m. The manufacturer of “Estromal” polyester resins, phenolic and amino resins and adhesive systems bought laminate producer Zakłady Tworzyw Sztucznych Izo-Erg (Gliwice / Poland) at the beginning of 2020, shortly after having acquired paint and additive manufacturer Zakłady Chemiczne Permedia (Lublin / Poland). The group – Marian Kwiecień is owner and CEO – also includes packaging manufacturer Marpol (Ignatki / Poland; www.marpol.pl) and GTX Hanex Plastic (Poznań / Poland; www.hanex.com.pl), which specialises in PET thermoforming sheets, preforms and bottles.
