BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) is building a distribution centre for its pigments business in Ladenburg / Germany. The new building, which is expected to be operational from spring 2021, will combine a central distribution structure with a distribution network geared to small quantities, the company said. The company held the groundbreaking for the 20,000 m² building just recently.
BASF said customers of its Colors & Effects pigment business will benefit from a more flexible warehousing and delivery service. “This site, about 20 km away from our largest production site in Ludwigshafen and in an ideal location to our other European production sites, allows us to combine our centralised distribution structure in Europe with a distribution network geared to small quantities,” said Florian Hofer, who is globally responsible for customer service and logistics management at Colors & Effects. Neska Schifffahrts- und Speditionskontor will be Color & Effects’ logistics partner at the new site.
The sale of BASF’s pigment activities – including the new logistics site – to DIC Corporation (Tokyo / Japan; www.dic-global.com) announced last year was recently stalled (see Plasteurope.com of 06.07.2020). BASF still expects the transaction to be closed in the fourth quarter of 2020, a company spokesperson told Plasteurope.com.
