DSM (Heerlen / The Netherlands; www.dsm.com) has announced an agreement to take over certain activities of Clariant’s (Muttenz / Switzerland; www.clariant.com) 3D printing business. The acquisition, for which financial details were not disclosed, strengthens DSM’s engineering-grade materials portfolio.
The deal includes part of the Clariant 3D printing team, a selection of its range of filament and pellet materials, expertise in powder development and a production line for small batches. The Swiss company said its 3D printing materials business was no longer part of its strategic focus, but it would continue to serve the additive manufacturing market with its additives and flame retardants activities. Clariant launched its 3D printing materials business in 2017 (see Plasteurope.com of 12.12.2017).
For Covid-19-relevant manufacturing solutions, including 3D printing, DSM has created an open platform (see Plasteurope.com of 29.05.2020). The Dutch group is also partnering with multiple companies on additive manufacturing (see Plasteurope.com of 04.12.2019).
