While some industry events such as the “Fakuma” trade fair are set to take place as usual despite the coronavirus pandemic (see Plasteurope.com of 30.06.2020), Germany’s Institute for Plastics Processing at RWTH Aachen University (IKV, Aachen; www.ikv-aachen.de) has decided to convert its “International Colloquium Plastics Technology”, taking place from 8-11 September, to an online format. The 30th edition of this event had first been postponed from 11-12 March 2020 to 9-10 September 2020 (see Plasteurope.com of 05.03.2020).
In order to accommodate the special situation, the online conference will be spread over four afternoons instead of two days. There will now only be two sessions running in parallel instead of three, which will allow participants to attend more lectures. In addition, the different ticket categories each cost EUR 200 less. Organiser Heinz Dersch said feedback has been positive overall, and participants are curious about the digital format.
The core of the conference will be made up of 15 sessions with lectures from industry and science in addition to plenary speeches on current issues such as Industry 4.0 and circular economy. Forums and theme rooms – available through the internet platform like the lectures and the general programme – can be used to network.
