PolyOne (Avon Lake, Ohio / USA; www.polyone.com) is expanding the production of its post-industrial recycled (PIR) polyamide grades – “Nymax” PIR – and bio-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) “ReSound” overmoulding (OM) portfolio in Europe. It noted that the European share of global bioplastics production is set to rise to 30% by 2024, with growth partly fuelled by public commitments from several companies to increase the use of recycled plastics.
Nymax PIR post-industrial rPA is formulated with 20-100% recycled PA materials, such as from used carpet. The materials have high strength, durability, impact resistance and weather resistance, making these an alternative to virgin PA in applications such as for the automotive, outdoor and industrial sectors.
ReSound OM – with four overmoulding grades compatible with rigid polypropylene and one suited for ABS – use 40-50% bio-based content derived from sugarcane. Features of the ReSound materials include durability, property retention and UV resistance, and these are suited for use in cosmetics packaging, personal care products and consumer electronics.
