Fertiliser producer Farg’onaazot (Ferghana / Uzbekistan; www.azot.uz) has founded a joint venture with Russian investor SintTeks Rus in order to resume production of PA 6 fibres and polyester staple fibres previously belonging to the now bankrupt Ferghana Chemical Fiber at its headquarters. The Synttex JV will mainly supply tyre and technical fabric producers, says Farg’onaazot. It is set to create 450 jobs, with investment running at around USD 90m (EUR 83m).
According to media reports, the project to take up fibre production originally dates back to 2012. Ferghana Chemical Fiber, which filed for bankruptcy in 2009 due to a lack of the PA 6 feedstock caprolactam, was merged with Farg’onaazot when it was unable to find a buyer. The facilities have a total fibre capacity of 15,000 t/y including polyamide polymerisation.
