Polymer producers association PlasticsEurope (Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticseurope.org) has announced a webinar taking place on 2 April 2020, which will cover the results of its “Plastic Leak Project” (PLP). The initiative was co-founded by sustainability consulting firm Quantis (www.quantis-intl.com) and ecodesign centre Shaping Environmental Action (www.shaping-ea.com) in February 2019 in partnership with 35 public, private and scientific organisations – see Plasteurope.com of 09.05.2019. Co-organisers of the webinar are the association’s project partners Arla Foods (Viby / Denmark; www.arla.com), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN, Gland / Switzerland; www.iucn.org), Quantis and Sympatex Technologies (Unterföhring / Germany; www.sympatext.com).
The year-long project has yielded a science-based methodology to map, measure and forecast plastics leakage in corporate value chains. Companies can use results to locate hotspots, determine the amount of leakage and identify factors contributing to plastics pollution. The PLP guidelines can be downloaded here.
