German supplier Büfa Thermoplastic Composites (Oldenburg; www.thermoplasticcomposites.de) has entered into an agreement for the distribution of Covestro’s (Leverkusen / Germany; www.covestro.com) “Maezio” unidirectional (UD) tapes in Europe. This is Covestro’s first distribution partnership for its thermoplastic composites business in the region – see Plasteurope.com of 09.08.2018.
“Maezio UD tapes are based on a thermoplastic matrix such as polycarbonate, which is strengthened with strands of continuous, oriented carbon or glass fibres. The UD tapes can be laminated together at different angles to form sheets that can be tuned to specific performance targets,” said Covestro. The company added that the tapes are suitable for the production of complex, three-dimensional components in a variety of industries.
Büfa Thermoplastic Composites was formerly a division of speciality chemicals and composites group Büfa (Oldenburg; www.buefa.de). The segment was established as an independent unit at the start of 2019 in order to better serve the growing composites market. The spin-off has since been focusing on the distribution of raw materials and semi-finished products for components made of long and continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastics.
