Greiner Packaging (GPI; Kremsmünster / Austria; www.greiner-gpi.com) and specialist for packaging printing Offsetdruckerei Schwarzach (Schwarzach / Austria; www.die-verpackungs-druckerei.at) have jointly developed a new tear-tab mechanism for paper and plastic packaging. The design is meant to simplify the separation of cardboard and plastics for recycling.
Greiner Packaging presented the tear-tab design on its “K3” disposable cup. Consumers can easily separate the unprinted white or transparent plastic cup from its cardboard sleeve. The comapny’s thermoformed K3 cup is made of about one third plastic (polypropylene or polystyrene) and has a diameter of 95 mm and volume of 500 ml.
