Polyethylene film producer Polystar Plastics (Southampton / UK; www.polystar.co.uk) has made investments in 2019, including for replacing old extrusion units and adding capacity. The company has already added three new monolayer lines with new ones that increase capacity by 2,500 t/y at its Southampton site. These lines are for producing thin films from 100% recycled plastics.
The UK film manufacturer plans to install a 3,100 mm-width 3-layer coextrusion line this month, which will contribute a further 6,000 t/y of film capacity. This line will allow the inclusion of up to 50% recyclate into films. Polystar’s investments also include a 4-colour flexographic press and a high-speed bottom-weld conversion line with the capability for post-gusseting and punch-perforation, aimed towards thin films.
