Agreement to buy majority stake in Denmark's Eurec / Aim to boost EPS recycling
Leading EPS producer BEWiSynbra (Solna / Sweden; www.bewisynbra.com) has agreed to acquire a 51% stake in Danish recycler Eurec (Hedensted; www.eurec.dk) for an undisclosed sum. Martin Bekken, managing director of BEWiSynbra Circular, said the buy adds a wide portfolio of recycling activities that combines well with the Swedish company's recent acquisition of Belgian recycling company Eco Fill (Bornem; www.ecofill.be).

Eurec collects, compacts, processes and sells recycled EPS – called Flamingo in Denmark – and plastics. The company also operates as an agent and lessor of baling presses and press containers.
Since establishing BEWiSynbra Circular in October 2018, the Swedish group said it has launched several activities to increase the collection and recycling of used EPS. These include launching its “Use-ReUse” concept that aims to set a new industry standard for collecting and recycling EPS together with raising awareness on the ease and importance of recycling the material, which is composed of 2% PS and 98% air.
In addition, BEWiSynbra Circular has set up compacting stations in Varberg / Sweden and Frøya / Norway as well as collecting stations at some facilities. Circular is also working with several of its customers and partners to find the best ways to collect more used EPS.
In March 2019, BEWiSynbra agreed to pay EUR 400,000 for a 51% stake in Eco Fill, which regards itself as Belgium’s leading EPS collector and recycler, collecting and compacting around 1,800 t/y of EPS for recycling. BEWiSynbra itself was formed in 2018 when BEWi bought Dutch EPS foams specialist Synbra – see Plasteurope.com of 21.02.2018.
