BASF
Products from chemically recycled material presented / Prototypes made by Jaguar Land Rover, Storopack, Südpack and Schneider Electric
Four partners in BASF’s (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) “ChemCycling” project – see Plasteurope.com of 21.11.2018 – presented the first products that use the German chemical group’s materials from processing pyrolysis oil derived from plastics waste.

The prototypes showcased at the pre-trade show press conference for “K 2019” (www.k-online.com) included Jaguar Land Rover’s (Coventry / UK; www.jaguarlandrover.com) plastic front-end carrier for its first electric SUV, the “I-Pace”. The carmaker used BASF’s “Ultramid B3WG6 Ccycled Black 00564”. Chemically recycled Ultramid was also used in manufacturing Schneider Electric’s (Rueil-Malmaison / France; www.se.com) circuit breaker.

Storopack (Dietzenbach / Germany; www.storopack.com) used “Styropor P Ccycled” to make insulation packaging for pharmaceutical products, boxes for transporting fresh fish and protective packaging for electronic devices. Südpack (Ochsenhausen / Germany; www.suedpack.com) combined polyamide and polyethylene films to create sealed packaging for mozzarella. While the pilot phase of the project is promising, BASF said chemical recycling still needs acceptance from the market and regulators.
