Consumer chemicals producer Henkel (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.henkel.com) has started using “I’m eco” shrink film for transport packaging of its “Somat” dishwashing tabs. The film is made by Papier-Mettler (Morbach / Germany; www.papier-mettler.com), which has packaging solutions that use recycled film waste, sugar cane as well as starch from potatoes and corn as raw materials.
I’m eco, which contains more than 50% rPE, was launched by Henkel in Russia, Italy and other European markets, where the shrink film is used as transport packaging. The company is evaluating the possibility of adopting I’m eco for laundry and beauty care products. It fulfils Henkel’s standards due to its high quality, and it is durable enough to protect the merchandise on the journey from the factory to retailer shelves.
I’m eco film is manufactured in a closed material loop – the packaging waste is collected and integrated back into the value chain by converting it into plastic resin for use in the production of new shrink wraps. This is 100% recyclable, helps to reduce plastics waste and cuts CO2 emissions by more than 25%, says Henkel.
