BASF
Further extension of PPA portfolio / Ideal for materials in electrical and electronics industry
BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) is extending its polyphthalamide (PPA) portfolio by introducing the new “Ultramid Advanced T2000” based on polyamide 6T/66. The global launch was held at “Chinaplas” (www.chinaplasonline.com), Asia’s largest plastics trade fair, which in 2019 was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, from 21-24 May – see Plasteurope.com of 06.06.2019.

The material has good mechanical and dielectric strength at high temperatures, making it suitable in the E&E industry as well as for applications in the automotive and transportation sectors, according to BASF. It has a high melting point (310°C) and heat deflection temperatures at greater than 280°C (HDT-A), which makes it ideal for lead-free soldering without part deformation. PPA offers high, constant stiffness and strength over a broad temperature range combined with resistance to heat and humidity.

BASF has PPA flame-retardant grades reinforced with 30-40% glass fibres and UL 94 V-0 rating. There are also grades reinforced with 30-50% glass fibres and improved impact resistance available without colour and in laser-markable black.
