Expansion of EVOH plant in Texas
Mitsubishi expects a solid surge in demand for EVOH (Photo: Noltex) |
Mitsubishi Chemical (MCC, Tokyo / Japan; www.m-chemical.co.jp/en) is expanding the ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymers (EVOH) production plant of its US subsidiary Noltex (La Porte, Texas; www.noltexllc.com) by 3,000 t/y to 41,000 t/y. The new capacities are scheduled to come onstream in summer 2020.
The "SoarnoL" brand material is supplied primarily to the Americas from this location but can also cover demand in Europe and Asia. In addition to Texas, Mitsubishi produces EVOH in Okayama / Japan and Hull / UK.
The company is reckoning on a robust increase in demand over the years to come. This will be driven by growth in the emerging economies, increased use of individual packaging due to changing lifestyles and the trend toward restricting the use of preserving agents and food additives.
