Through debottlenecking and optimisation of production, German speciality chemicals and plastics producer Evonik (Essen / Germany; www.evonik.com) is doubling capacity for “Trogamid CX” transparent polyamide compounds at its site in Marl / Germany. Work on the expansion is already in progress and is due to be completed by 2020. The Essen group, which has not disclosed capacity figures for the compounds, said it is reacting to increasing global demand.

Ralf Düssel, head of the High Performance Polymers business line, said the capacity addition will strengthen long-term growth perspective for the group’s high-end polymer products and also enhance its scope for developing new products. Iordanis Savvopoulos, head of the Granules & Compounds product line, added that Evonik has observed consistently high demand, especially from the consumer goods segment, for specialised material solutions that combine highest transparency, quality, and design freedom with the best processing characteristics. Trogamid CX grades are transparent and UV-resistant PA materials.

At the “MIDO 2019” eyewear trade fair held in Milan / Italy in late February 2019, Evonik presented its new "Trogamid myCX high flow” PA moulding compound for optical applications such as high-end lenses and visors – see Plasteurope.com of 25.01.2019. The compounds are claimed to feature crystal-clear transparency, excellent wear comfort and high durability as well as offering moulders improved processing capabilities due to significantly improved flowability.
