In 2018, Valorplast (Puteaux / France; www.valorplast.com) – warrantor for the plastic packaging of French recycling organisation Citeo (Paris; www.citeo.com), formerly Eco-Emballages – recycled 151,400 t of plastic packaging collected from household waste. Following the latest plastics waste legislation in France, this now includes trays, pots, film and bags. Previously, essentially only bottles were collected separately.
Valorplast operates 133 sorting centres nationwide, and its output goes to 30 recycling companies. Around 75% of the volume collected is recycled in France, while the remainder goes to surrounding EU states. Nearly 60% of French cities and municipalities worked with Valorplast in 2018.
Early in 2019, the French government announced a national pact on plastic packaging. Among other things, the signatories commit to recycling 100% of plastic packaging by 2025 – see Plasteurope.com of 13.03.2019.
