The UK operation of Safic-Alcan (Paris / France; www.safic-alcan.com) has acquired 100% of Langley-Smith (London / UK; www.langley-smith.co.uk) for an undisclosed sum. Established in 1907, Langley-Smith is a speciality chemicals distributor across Europe. It distributes a range of products that include adhesives, coatings, inks and polymers – styrene butadiene styrene (SBS), styrene isoprene styrene (SIS), polyisobutene (PIB) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
David Crow, Langley-Smith’s owner and managing director, said combining his firm’s presence and expertise with Safic-Alcan‘s international network would “open a new chapter for both our companies’ industrial businesses.” In the year ended 31 December 2017 Langley-Smith reported turnover of GBP 17.9m (EUR 21m) and a pre-tax profit of GBP 448,000. According to Safic-Alcan, the UK company is a significant player in the beverage, animal feed and detergency sectors.
