Furthering plans to build a 750,000 t/y propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant at its production site in Kallo / Belgium – see Plasteurope.com of 10.10.2018 – Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) has awarded Tecnimont, the main contractor of Italian engineering group Maire Tecnimont (Milan; www.mairetecnimont.com), with the engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning services contract for the facility. The contract is valued at around EUR 90m and plant start-up is now scheduled for mid-2022.
The new facility will use the “Oleflex” technology of Honeywell subsidiary UOP (Des Plaines, Illinois / USA; www.uop.com) for C3 production. The Austrian polyolefins and chemicals group will also build up downstream PP plants, adding a projected 80,000 t/y capacity by mid-2020 – see Plasteurope.com of 10.12.2018. According to Plasteurope.com's Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), Borealis has a PP capacity of 385,000 t/y in Kallo.
Maire Tecnimont recently invested in an Italian plant that will produce recycled polymers from plastics waste – see Plasteurope.com of 01.03.2019.
