German films maker expands US production in Kentucky

German films manufacturer RKW (Frankenthal; www.rkw-group.com) is investing USD 18.8m in its production site in Franklin, Kentucky / USA. The plans include an expansion of the plant to boost RKW's offering for the North American market. The Kentucky plant currently employs around 100 people, and the expansion will create 30 full-time jobs.
The expansion plans for RKW North America include the construction of a 2,800 m² production and warehouse facility in addition to investments in machinery and equipment. It will also invest in employee training.
RKW North America has been part of the RKW group since 2010 and has focused on manufacturing technical films that are used for packaging in the food and non-food sectors. Production capacity at the North American site was expanded in 2006 by additional multi-layer extrusion lines. In 2012, RKW invested in film production for absorbent hygiene products in Franklin.
