At a site in Ust-Kut, Irkutsk / Russia, an ethane cracker with a connected PE plant is to be built in the next few years. Toyo Engineering (Tokyo / Japan; www.toyo-eng.com) has been awarded the contract to construct the plant for Irkutsk Oil (INK, Irkutsk; www.irkutskoil.com).
The Siberian facility will be in the vicinity of gas fields. Here, the Irkutsk Polymer Plant subsidiary is expected to have downstream capacities from the ethane cracker of 650,000 t/y of ethylene and 650,000 t/y of PE by around 2022.
