Plant pots producer Desch Plantpak (Waalwijk / The Netherlands; www.desch.nl) has acquired packaging manufacturer Fernholz's (Meinerzhagen / Germany; www.fernholz-verpackungen.de) horticultural division for an undisclosed sum. Fernholz is to focus on its core business comprising film and food packaging.
The German company operates two production plants in Germany. In Meinerzhagen it manufactures packaging for the dairy and food industry using thermoforming and injection moulding, as well as PS, PP and PET films. At its plant in Schkopau, PP and PS films are produced, especially for form, fill and seal lines for the dairy industry. Fernholz employs 220 people, and processes around 24,000 t/y of plastics.
With the acquisition, Desch Plantpak is boosting its position as a supplier of horticultural accessories. In autumn 2018, the Dutch thermoforming specialist also acquired Sky-Light’s (Varde / Denmark; www.sky-light.dk) horticultural activities – see Plasteurope.com of 25.10.2018. Desch Plantpak annually processes around 30,000 t of plastics (PP, PS, PET and bioplastics).
