Plastic pipes group acquires UK's Manthorpe Building Products

Polypipe (Doncaster / UK; www.polypipe.com) has acquired Manthorpe Building Products (Ripley / UK; www.manthorpebuildingproducts.co.uk) for GBP 52m (EUR 58m). Manthorpe specialises in manufacturing injection-moulded and extruded plastic as well as metal products for the residential and repair and maintenance sectors in the UK and Ireland. including dry fix roofing, residential slot and channel drainage, air leakage, roof ventilation, loft doors and access panels.
Employing around 100 staff, family-owned Manthorpe last year reported a pre-tax profit of GBP 4.9m (EUR 5.5m) on turnover of nearly GBP 16m (EUR 18m). Polypipe’s chief executive Martin Payne said Manthorpe would be complementary to his firm’s existing activity, strengthening its positions in water and climate management markets. “The acquisition of Manthorpe Building Products is a perfect fit for us, expanding our product platform and market reach in the UK and Irish residential and RMI markets, which, like other parts of our business, are being positively impacted by legislative change,” he added.
The Doncaster-based pipes manufacturer recently purchased surface water management specialist Permavoid (Warrington / UK; www.permavoid.co.uk) for an undisclosed sum – see Plasteurope.com of 07.11.2018. In 2017, Polypipe reported that sales were up 6.3% at GBP 412m and underlying operating profit rose 6% to GBP 72.6m – see Plasteurope.com of 13.04.2018 – and the group in early 2018 divested its French business to Ryb (Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs / France; www.ryb.fr).
