Covestro (Leverkusen / Germany; www.covestro.com) is investing more than EUR 100m in growing its global films production. Capacity expansions for speciality films made from polycarbonate and thermoplastic polyurethane are planned at Dormagen / Germany, Map Ta Phut / Thailand, Guangzhou, Guangdong / China and South Deerfield, Massachusetts / USA. The investments also include funds for expanding the associated infrastructure and logistics. The measures will create over 100 jobs. The semi-finished products are manufactured for the automotive, medical technology and security card sectors, among others.
The German company is installing new coextrusion lines in Dormagen that are scheduled for completion in Q4 2020. In 2017, Covestro commissioned an additional system for multilayer flat films there – see Plasteurope.com of 07.07.2017. At the Map Ta Phut site, a new plant based on coextrusion technology will be launched by the end of 2019. In Guangzhou, the existing coextrusion line will be converted. From mid-2019, additional capacity will be added to production, with an extension planned for later. The company says measures to increase the efficiency and quality of films production at its South Deerfield facility are already being implemented.
